The Inter Cars Group aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from its direct business activities by 2030. We aspire to share knowledge and collaborate with stakeholders across the value chain, particularly with our suppliers, to define their own goals in this regard.
The decarbonization targets adopted by the Inter Cars Group are part of the revised Sustainability Strategy and Decarbonization Strategy for the year 2030. The actions planned to achieve these goals are intended to lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions generated by Inter Cars' operations.
Decarbonization targets have been verified by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
Inter Cars is one of the few Polish companies whose decarbonization goals have been verified and approved by SBTi.
How is the carbon footprint calculated?
Corporate carbon footprint is the sum of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated during its operations. These emissions are divided into three scopes according to the GHG Protocol:
· Scope 1 includes direct emissions resulting from company's operations
· Scope 2 includes indirect emissions resulting from the production of purchased electricity and heat
· Scope 3 includes indirect emissions generated throughout the organization's value chain.
Inter Cars has been calculating its carbon footprint in all three scopes since 2021 and annually publishes information on this topic in Sustainability Report.
To what extent does Inter Cars plan to reduce its carbon footprint?
During the development of the revised Sustainability Strategy and Decarbonization Strategy, the following decarbonization goals were established:
1. Inter Cars commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.
2. Inter Cars also commits that 73% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution and downstream transportation and distribution, will set their science-based targets by 2028.
More details about the revised Sustainability Strategy and Decarbonization Strategy will be available in the 2023 Sustainability Report, to be published alongside the Consolidated Financial Report for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2023.
